Meet at Sugar Land Memorial Park, on University in Sugar Land.
This Christmas Bird Count is in the heart of Fort Bend County. Our route will be from Rosenberg at Tony Becerra Park, to Sugar memorial Park. The distance is roughly 21 miles. This is a relatively new CBC and it will be the first time we paddle it as a bird count. This is a route we paddle pretty regularly though.
Meet at Bates Allen Park Canoe Launch
This is a relatively new CBC. We will likely paddle the San Bernard River from Bates Allen Park as an out and back. Distance is typically about 10 miles as we explore the back sloughs off the river and the main stem as far up and down as we can reasonably travel. It‘s a nice easy intro to counting birds by boat.
Location willbe determined but is usually either Pickett's Bayou boat ramp, Dead Pig Put-in or I-10,
This CBC covers an area familiar to most HCC members. We typically do some combination of Pickett‘s Bayou, the Cutoff, Old River, and the Trinity main stem, usually covering about 15 miles of water. This is a pleasant, easy CBC and usually we vary the route to avoid excessive wind or high water.
Meet at the entrance to Lake Houston Park.
This CBC is a pleasant paddle through the waters surrounding Lake Houston Park. We typically paddle Peach Creek, Caney Creek, the East Fork of the San Jacinto, and the various cypress sloughs that come off of them. Our typical distance is about 15 miles. This is a very birdy route and we typically see a number of unique species for the count.
The Trinity River Christmas Bird Count is one of the most entertaining of the paddling counts. It is approximately 19.5 miles of main stem Trinity River, from FM 787 near Romayor to SH 105, east of Cleveland. This is one of the counts where the paddling group traditionally makes a real contribution to the total. Though 19.5 miles, this is an easy trip, with a nice push from the river, and lots to see. Much of the route goes through units of Trinity River NWR.
Details on shuttle will be forthcoming once we know conditions and the size of the group.

This is currently a placeholder for a spring trip to the Buffalo River or Jack‘s Fork (Current River). The intention of the timing of this trip is to take advantage of the Spring rains and their correspondingly higher water levels.
Weather is unpredictable - it could be cold, it could rain, it could snow, or it could be clear and beautiful. I expect a mix.
If we go to the Buffalo River, restaurants will figure into our plan. Jack‘s Fork is more remote and the cullinary choices are slim after we get on the water.
The first and last scheduled days are travel days. Some will want to break up the travel, leaving a day earlier and returning a day later.
