Topic of the month:
Sea Kayaking in Alaska, Prince William Sound and beyond
Our Guest Speaker: Randall Wiest
It is likely sister Natalie will be the voice of the presentation, photos and narrative prepared by Randy who is scheduled to be on a deer hunt in the Juneau area and likely out of Zoom or cell phone range. He may join us on cell phone if possible.
(Greg's note: For those who joined the club only recently, Natalie was previously the commodore of Houston Canoe Club. She is also the author of book "Canoeing and Kayaking Houston Waterways" available on Amazon etc.)
Natalie: Being the older sister, I have known Randy all his life. We were born and raised in Lancaster County PA, educated at Penn State and in Randy’s case, University of Pennsylvania for medical school. Public Health Service helped finance his medical education; he is somewhat the model for Joel of Northern Exposure tv series fame and was interviewed by their script writers. His first PHS assignment was on the Pribilof Islands in the Bering Sea, followed by 16 years at the Southeast Alaska Regional Center for Health in Juneau. Since the 1990s he has practiced family medicine in Homer and has recently retired. Ever the consummate outdoorsman, he fishes, hunts, mountain bikes, hikes and sea kayaks. I have had the good fortune to accompany him on several wonderful kayaking trips, most recently and notably in Prince William Sound. He has recently reprised PWS and will share those photos, and likely many more from his Alaskan adventures.
Join us for this cool presentation.
