The segment of the Brazos between FM 413 and FM 979 is a particularly interesting piece of the river. This segment is noted for an exposure of the K-T contact near FM 413, and two shoal areas. One of the shoals is known locally as Curly Shoal, because of the twisting path through the limestone whale backs. The other one is known to us as Hamburger Shoals, because of the erosional features resembling giant hamburgers. This section is also noted for large fossil leaf impressions along the river.

We'll meet at FM 979 at 0800 and shuttle up for a roughly 20 mile paddle. Contact me if you are interested in attending. The following link is to a trip report from a previous run on this section.
