What is this?
A relatively short (about 14.5 miles) paddle on the Brazos, near Hempstead. This is a pleasant stretch with moderate put in and take out. It is largely unobstructed and definitely not a technical stretch of river.
Other than a pleasant paddle, the purpose of this trip is also to harvest a few bags of petrified wood from the sandbars so Lower Brazos can replenish the stock of giveaways for kids at nature fests. Due to COVID event cancellations we made the last 150 pounds or so last a couple years, but it's time to stock back up, we've got a full schedule this spring and summer.
This is a good stretch for people who have not paddled the Brazos to get an intro to the river.
