Sabine River Challenge
This is a 31 mile river race from Hawkins (SH 14) to Gladewater (US 271) in deep east Texas. I have never paddled that river segment, but have examined it on aerial photos and it looks like primarily a bottomland hardwood/cypress bottom with scattered rocky shoals, sandbars and even the odd log jam. The race is sponsored by the DTx paddlers and Clint Sutherland. Registration is required, and there is day of the event registration for last minute decision makers.<br /><br />There will be limited opportunities for resupply or early exit from the river, and those will be in the first ten miles. There will be no shuttle provided, so plan accordingly. <br /><br />My assessment is that, while not as obstructed as the Neches, this should be a very entertaining race!
