Brazos River, SH 21 to FM 60

Where:
Meet at FM 60 and the Brazos, west bank of the river. This is just west of College Station.

A low water look at a particularly interesting stretch of the Brazos, and one we do regularly. I am scheduling this one as a recon trip prior to leading a trip on this section for the Texas River Festival at Hidalgo Falls in October.


The distance is roughly 16.5 miles. The put in and take out are moderately challenging. This segment includes the petrified log jam, the area of stromatolitess, and as few sections of moderately bumpy water. There are no unusual hazards.

Note that currently the water levels are near historic lows and there is some chance of having to drag a boat now and then, though this section usually has some deeper channel.
