About this event
Description of the trip:
We will paddle through the largest cypress forest on the Texas coast, which is located near Interstate 10, less than 50 miles east of downtown Houston. Depending on the water and weather conditions, we will focus on one or more of the area’s many features, such as: wildlife, river processes, Texas history, and the impact of human interventions. The launch site is subject to change, based on the local wind forecast.
Paddling time: 4-5 hours, plus breaks for sightseeing and lunch. This will be an out-and-back trip that does not require a car shuttle.
Difficulty: moderate to strenuous.
Participants must provide their own canoe or kayak, life jackets (required to be worn), and paddles. The trip leaders can help you with advice regarding gear rentals from Houston area outfitters, if needed.
Participants who are not currently members of the American Canoe Association will need to pay a one-time ACA Event Membership Fee of $10.
Trip size is limited and registration by email to the Contact Person is required. To register, please contact Tom Douglas at baymail@sbcglobal.net or (832) 752-4166. A detailed pre-trip information sheet and any potential notice of a change in the paddling venue will be sent by email to registered participants.
