While we didn't come up with the full amount, we were close enough that the
city decided to finance the balance. So far, the TRPA has contributed $26,600.
The San Marcos River Foundation contributed $2,000, and the Guadalupe Blanco
River Trust had collected $10,000, so we came up with a total of $38,600 out of
$50,000. The city was going to borrow the balance ($11,400) from the bank, but
the sellers offered to finance at 4% interest with a 15 year payout and no
prepayment penalty. So the deal is done. The extra park land is
purchased.
And, on the day before we gave them the money the Martindale City Council
passed an ordinance making a loading zone at Scull's Crossing (down near the
river on the Martindale side of the new bridge). They have also committed to
building some steps on the Martindale side if the Scull family ever fences off
the river right.
So, access is protected and the park in Martindale has expanded. Now we
just need to work on getting the deal finalized so the city can get the
additional 8 acres of land. But things are looking good.
