Title:
Buffalo National River in Arkansas
Inclusive Dates:
9/24 - 9/27 (4 days)
Description:
Let’s paddle the Buffalo National River in Arkansas. We will be tent camping in a National Park, so cost will be minimal. We will depart Houston approximately 5:00 AM, Friday, September 24th and travel to our base campsite in Arkansas and return to Houston on Monday, September 27th. It should be about a 10 hour trip from Houston. If you would be interested in carpooling with me, please let me know that in your email when you join up. Our put-in and take-out points will be determined by the river water levels closer to the time of our arrival. I anticipate that we will be paddling sections within the Middle and Lower Sections for this trip. We will paddle approximately 10 miles (4 – 6 hours) each day (Saturday and Sunday), depending on the current water levels. We will return to base camp each night.

Once I have a finalized list of participants, I will make final adjustments to the itinerary to include specific campsites/river sections to paddle and forward information to the participants. Please let me know if you’ll be joining us on this trip by September 10th, 2010. For more info, check out:

Most of the river consists of easy flat water, but in some sections we may encounter Class I-II rapids. The river is not considered to be technically difficult, but it is for adult paddlers who have had some river running experience.
Skill Level:
Intermediate: Knowledge of basic whitewater safety, self-rescue and rescue such as retrieving a pinned boat. Able to capture small eddies, run Class 2 rapids confidently, but challenged by Class 3 rapids such as Cottonseed on the San Marcos at say 300-400 cfs.
