Former Houston resident Nick Davenport has provided some more info on the history of the Reeking Regatta race on Buffalo Bayou, from his personal recollection.  There are also some great newspaper photos showing the crowd and chaos, and even better, a vintage 45-year-old video of the start of the race in 1972, with paddlers madly scrambling down the bank to put canoes in the water.  It's a hoot!

HCC's own Commodore and Vice Commodore, Paul Carr and Wayne Walls, organized and ran the race when it began in 1970, according to the race info sheet.
