Houston Canoe Club Officer's Meeting
Meeting Minutes
October 1, 2001

The meeting was called to order by Commodore Fraser Baker. New members were introduced. There were 41 members present. Minutes were approved.

Cheryl Cleary gave the Fleet Captain’s report.

Tom Douglas reminded the members that Bay Day is October 20th.

Purser, Candy Donahue reported that we have $22,146 including Rendezvous funds. There is $5,400 in available cash. Our dues increase should allow the club to break even on our club operating expenses.

The nominating committee reported that the slate of officers proposed for 2002 includes:
Commodore – Fraser Baker,  Fleet Captain – Randall Nord,
Vice Commodore – Jim Null,  Newsletter Editor – Donna Grimes,
Recorder – Marilyn Peery,  Governor – Candy Donahue,
Purser - Kevin Casement,  Governor – Bill Grimes,
Governor – Mark Andrus.

A grant application is being sent to REI for $1,000 for the purpose of involving HCC in education and building canoe trails at Sheldon Reservoir State Park.

An ad for Rendezvous appeared in the Houston Press on page 2. In the Thursday Houston Chronicle, Rendezvous will be featured on the front cover of Preview, the weekly events magazine with an article written by Melissa Aguilar. Another article will appear in Doug Pike’s Outdoor Column of the sports section.

The meeting was adjourned.

Houston Canoe Club General Meeting
Meeting Minutes
October 10, 2001

The meeting was called to order by Commodore Fraser Baker. Officers present included Recorder Marilyn Peery, Purser Candy Donahue and Governors Mary Carter, Bill Grimes and Mark Andrus.

REI sent us a grant application with a deadline of Oct. 1. It has not been acted upon so we may have lost an opportunity. It was sent to non-profit organizations involved in conservation and education. Since we would only be giving the money away to someone else, we may not have received it anyway.

Tracy Caldwell may chair the Christmas party. We will wait until after Rendezvous to vote on whether the club will fund the party or we will ask members to pay an admission fee.

Candy reported that we have only $5,597 in our account.

Bill reported that the nominating committee thinks it is still looking for people to fill the positions of vice commodore, purser, fleet captain and governor.

Bill presented a draft Donna drew up for an updated membership application that reflects the increase in dues. Suggestions and corrections were made. The application was approved as amended.

Cheryl is working on a customer handout about the club for REI.

The newsletter was mailed today.

The meeting was adjourned.
