American Whitewater Affiliation
Frank Ohrt, one of the club's avid whitewater paddlers, raised the issue at several club Board meetings, of the Houston Canoe Club becoming an affiliated club with the American Whitewater organization. After exploring and discussing the benefits, cost ($75) and requirements (none) of such affiliation, the Board decided to let Frank pitch the idea to the membership at the November 11th meeting. Frank gave an excellent presentation detailing the work that American Whitewater does in preserving our recreational waterways and promoting safety. Frank then made a motion for HCC to join American Whitewater as an affiliated club, and after some brief discussion, the membership in attendance voted unanimously in favor of the motion with a chorus of "aye's", with no "nay's". The motion was passed.
HCC has been a member of American Whitewater in the past, and our club has been listed on their page of affiliated clubs, but with an "expired" background image. People who visit the American Whitewater page are able to see our HCC club listing there, along with a link to our own web site. So, visitors to American Whitewater from the Houston area, can be directed to our own club for their paddling needs.

This is what the HCC affiliated club listing looks like as of now, before renewing our membership:
Re-activating our affiliation will remove that "expired" background.
