Buffalo Bayou
Sabine Street to Shepherd and back
July 13, 2013
by Will Blumentritt

With the recent up-tick in new members, I wanted to put together a simple trip in the downtown area that would get people out on the water and have a relaxing and pleasant experience.

A total of 9 paddlers took the trip. Will Blumentritt, Paul Woodcock, Gary and Judy Toche, Paula Clinton, Keith Williams and son John Michael, Donna Johnston and guest Victor Chavez.

The water was quite low, which left a significant gap from the plan launch and the water, so we ended up putting in at the southwest corner of the Sabine Street bridge.  It is quite a ways down from the bridge to the put-in and all agreed that was the worst part of the trip.

The water was flat, with very little current.  We took a slow trip upstream to the Shepherd Bridge and then back to the out-in for a total of 4.66 miles in about a little over two hours.

I did not post a pre-paddle breakfast spot for this trip, but after the paddle Cindy suggested we go to the Black Walnut Café, which she had seen on the drive in, and four of us did have a nice after-paddle lunch.
