Experienced Paddlers Needed!
May 20th, 2013
by Geens Bayou Corridor Coalition

Dear Greens Bayou Reach Volunteers:

Through a partnership with the National Park Service the Greens Bayou Corridor Coalition is undertaking a paddle trail strategic plan that will ultimately open up the waterway to paddlers from North Houston at Beltway 8 and IH45 to our Thomas Bell Foster park at Normandy and I10 E in the South Reach. An Advisory Committee, led by Paddle Trail Chair Jeff Scheick, has been meeting since January to begin creating a vision for the trail.

We are now seeking experienced paddlers to do a thorough documentation of the current conditions that exist on Greens Bayou.

Float segments and dates will be coordinated through Jeff Scheick. You will be asked to record conditions on a data collection sheet, take photographs and map GPS locations with a smartphone app, Trimble Outdoors.

A minimum of four paddlers will be assigned to each section for safety reasons.

You will be required to sign a liability waiver and attend a Volunteer Orientation Meeting on Thursday, June 6th, 11:30 a.m. at the East Aldine District office, 5333 Aldine Mail Route, Houston TX 77039.

We prefer that you have your own equipment but it is not required. Bayou City Shuttle and REI will work with paddlers to ensure you are properly outfitted at your cost.

If you would like to be considered as a volunteer for this fun and challenging project, please contact Jeff Scheick from CivilTech Engineering at jdscheick@civiltecheng.com or (281) 304-0200.

Floats will need to be completed and data submitted to Jeff by the end of July so don't delay in contacting him to sign up and get the orientation meeting on your schedule.

Thank you for your willingness to help create a paddle trail on Greens Bayou!
Sincerely,
Jill Boullion
