HOUSTON CANOE CLUB GENERAL MEETING
August 8th, 2012

The meeting was called to order by Joe Coker, and the minutes from last month were approved.

Reports

Honey said that there were 9 folks for dinner at Pico's Restaurant. She also reminded us that she has decals and bumper stickers and really neat business cards for us to give out.

Visitors included: Ann Meyer who found us on the Internet; Clark - a new member; Kelly - a new member; Janet - a new member from the Internet; Ingrid - a friend of Janet and Laurie, and Robert.   WELCOME TO YOU ALL!!

Harmon said that we have $4,300 in the checking account minus $200 owed to ACA.  He has sent the paperwork to the IRS to get our nonprofit status back.

Past Trips

  • Christy - 20 folks did San Marcos at 200 cfs. Someone left behind 8/1/2 size water shoes.
  • Natalie – 15 folks did 7 miles at Luce Bayou.
  • Sophie had 25 folks at Luce.
  • Christy had 6 folks do roll practice at 288 Lake. The cost was $12/person for access on Schurmier Road.
  • Joe did the Bayou at Lake Somerville. During the trip there was a ripped finger from a line in the water- Be careful when picking up debris in the water.
Future Trips
  • Christy will do Village Creek with camping.
  • Paul has his Kansas Trip on August 23.
  • John Ohrt wants to do Cuero Guadalupe Valley Paddling Trail on Sept 8/9.
  • There will be a Sabine trip on Labor Day.
Safety Minute

Use safety straps for your eyeglasses. Make sure you have a repair kit with a screwdriver and a spare set of glasses if possible.

Program

Tom Douglas showed us beautiful pictures of the countryside from his trip to Otter Bar Lodge Kayak School in Salmon River, California.
