Tom Goynes and the TRPA have informed me that the San Marcos city council has approved a ban on single-use plastic and aluminum containers on the San Marcos river within the San Marcos city limits (i.e., a "can ban"), effective May 1. The council, alas, did not extend the ban to the city's extra-territorial jurisdiction (ETJ), which would include the Don's Fish Camp tubing outfitter, but has assured Tom that they would include the ETJ at a later date.
Well, maybe, but this is a huge step forward for the river. If we all were to send an email to the council members (at <councilmembers@sanmarcostx.gov>) thanking them and encouraging extension of the ban to their ETJ, it will certainly influence the council's future action.
