Kayak sailing
Author Last Post

Hi, Monique,

Open water is best for sailing because the wind is more consistent. I've sailed on Lake Houston, Lake Livingston, Offatts Bayou, Lake Charlotte, Christmas Bay and others. This first image is from Little Bay in Rockport. The second is on Armand Bayou. The sails I use are from Pacific Action, an Australian company. There are some great videos on their web site.

Cheers,

Richard

Hi, Greg. Yes, I got your e-mail. Thanks.

Richard, I looked up your email address from the club directory and sent you an email asking confirmation. If you have not received my direct email to you, please let me know your current email address here.

Thanks

Greg

I’m interested. I love sailing! Where have you all gone kayak sailing in the past?

Please have a Zoom meeting.

If you have an in-person meeting, it might be helpful for me to bring one of my boats so people can see how it's rigged. Your call on that. I'd be happy to do it. If the discussion is online, I could take photos and post them. Either way is fine with me.

Thank you, Richard. I have heard from someone well respected in this club talking about your kayak sailing experience dating back almost 10 years! I am sure It will be interesting to a lot of us. I will email you directly when we are making schedules.

Thanks again and wish you the best,

Greg

Hi, Greg,

Yes, I've enjoyed many hours sailing my two Wilderness sit-on-top kayaks and would be happy to share what I've learned. For anyone just getting started, there's a big difference between simply using a downwind sail (anything that will catch a breeze) and adding leeboards and a rudder to the boat so that it can sail closer to the wind. I'm still experimenting with that. A kayak is not a sailboat, but it sure can be fun.

I'd be happy to participate in a discussion and/or attend a meeting on the subject.

Cheers,

Richard

We have a lot of windy days, here being so close to the gulf coast. I am wondering how many of us are interested in kayak sailing?

1) If you have done it with some success, are you willing to share your kayak sailing experiences with other members? Rigging...operating....funny stories or lessons ?

2) Are you interested in joining us for such a sharing or discussion during one of our monthly meetings?

Comments are welcome.
