The funeral service for long-time HCC member Berry Bennick will be held tomorrow (Weds. Oct. 12) at Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Blvd. The funeral home directs traffic through its parking lot from west to east. So, to avoid having to drive around the block, it is best to approach by heading north up Yale Street, and then turning right into the funeral home’s parking lot a short distance past 13th Street. (see below)

The funeral service will be at 11:00, preceded by visitation at 9:30 and followed by a reception at 12:00. More details are posted on the HCC General Forum.

As John Bartos let us know in an earlier posting to the HCC General Forum, those of us who knew Barry Bennick will have an opportunity to pay our respects this Wednesday, October 12.

Barry Bennick Obituary - Houston, TX (dignitymemorial.com)

Barry Bennick passed away yesterday (Wednesday, Oct 5). His funeral will be next week, Wednesday, October 12 @11:00 am at Heights Funeral Home at 1317 Heights Blvd, Houston. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service.

Barry and his wife Ann were long time members of HCC. He was the first Conservation Chair of the HCC and helped lead a number of conservation battles in the 80's and 90's including a bridge over Armand Bayou and the damming of Lake Charlotte. He led a trip to Caddo Lake that we joined and has resulted in us visiting that jewel at least yearly for almost 40 years. They ended up buying and running Pine Needle Lodge on Caddo Lake.

We went on numerous other trips with them including Big Bend. A list of paddling trips in our area with maps was created by Barry and Ann and was posted on the original HCC website back in the early days of websites.

It would be nice for some of us who remember Barry to show some support for his family.
