When I was in the REI store on Westheimer earlier today (March 4), the sales person pointed out an Old Town Penobscot 164 canoe that had arrived at the store with a problem involving the wooden carrying thwart. From what I could see, it would be easy to fix, but be sure to check it closely if interested. The reason I mention this is that the usual price is $1,299.95 but they are offering this one for $698.83 . The canoe is constructed of 3-layer polyethylene, has a length of 16 feet 4 inches, and weighs in at a fairly heavy 75 pounds. Other specs and reviews are posted online at https://www.rei.com/product/883214/old-town-penobscot-164-canoe. It is said to be roomy, stable, and good for longer river trips. It could be a great buy if it is what you are looking for.
