Whitewater Show Coming Up on KUHT Channel 8 this S...
Author Last Post

I just watched the show about the 70+ year history of the FIBArk race and festival in Salida, Colorado on PBS. I hope that some of you enjoyed it, too. In case you missed it, or if you would like to see it again, it is on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNrYhKYf9OE .

8.4 does not appear to be available on AT&T, Dish Network or DirecTV. But it is free with an antenna.

We have Comcast and it's channel 304 KUHTW

In order to get channel 8.4 you will probably need to use a traditional antenna (e.g., rabbit ears) to receive the digital airwaves signal. It is doubtful that cable will be picking up 8.4. If you have never done this, you may need to have the TV "search" for all available (100+) channels so that you can perform cannel-up and channel-down functions. Pushing 8 on your remote will probably get you 8-1 and then you go up/down from there.

Personally, I have a full size antenna in my attic which functions as my backup if cable decides to crap out (or I if I decide to punt cable). Most of the broadcast antennas are in southwest Houston near Missouri City so that is the direction to point your antenna.

It may be that you need to have your TV do a scan for the channels that are available. I think that most TVs can probably do this, since it is a feature on our 2008 model set. Check the instruction book for your TV, if you can find it. If not, it will probably be available online.

Check to see if your remote has a button marked something like "Menu" or "Menu/Setup". On the menu, select "Channel". Look for something like "Auto Channel Memory", then select "Air" or "Cable", depending on how you receive the TV signal. Next, you should be able to start an automatic search for available channels, which might take up to a couple of minutes. That should find both the primary channels and the subchannels, like 8.4, which you will then be able to access.

According to Wikipedia, “In broadcasting, digital subchannels are a method of transmitting more than one independent program stream simultaneously from the same digital radio or television station on the same radio frequency channel.” There is more about the technology behind it at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_subchannel . KUHT has four of them.

What the heck is channel 8.4?

Sorry for the omission. The show will run on Channel 8.4 at noon on Sunday September 5.

I don't see it listed on the KUHT, Channel 8, schedule:

TV 8 KUHT – Houston Public Media

What time, on Sunday?

This Sunday September 5, Channel 8 will run the show “Whitewater #603”, which is part of the Colorado Experience series. Here is the description:

Paddle through the buoyant history of FIBArk, the United States' oldest and longest whitewater festival, and discover the adventurous evolution of whitewater sports and how they fortified a small town in central Colorado.
