I checked my call log and the last call from Z was on December 12. She was checking to find out how I was doing as she usually did to keep track of friends. We were doing fine and the call lasted only a few minutes (unlike the usual close to an hour). Z organized Octpaddlefest for many years after Rudy Rivers died. She was the Vice Commodore for HCC right after me in 2000. Mary and Paul were great trip leaders and I enjoyed the Rio Grande trips I was on with them (Lower Canyons, Boquillas, and Santa Elena}. Z loved to cook and had special meals on the trips. I never did ,make it up to her East Texas place even though I heard much about it. We will miss Z keeping track of the old paddlers and keeping everyone in touch with each other.

Very sorry to hear about Mary Z. Such a dedicated paddler and outdoorswoman. We have missed seeing her at meetings in recent years. She had do many interesting adventure treks with you, Paul.

My deepest condolences to those of you who knew her well... I regret never "getting around" to meeting her in person and taking her up on her blanket invite to the Davy Crockett NF on the Neches. She sounded like an amazing woman.

Sorry to hear about Mary.

Sandy and I are very sad to hear of Mary Z's passing. We had many fun paddles and campouts with Mary. There was no shortage of conversation with her.
