Neches River Rally
September 10, 2022

This year’s rally followed the same pretty Route as last year – Cooks Lake to Scatterman Lake.
This is a great trip to get novices on the river and a great fundraiser for the Big Thicket Association.
There was a fine turn out of approximately 50 paddlers. Cyndi Cannon and Fran Wilcox attended as well as Allie and JoAnne Baccinelli who have done some Club activities with us.
There were not any tee shirts this year, but very cool baseball caps and as per usual, the hamburgers were excellent!
We were also treated to a ride on the Ivory Bill, a pontoon boat that is utilized by the BTA for education purposes.
The short paddle of roughly 5 miles starts at the Saltwater barrier on the Neches River. This loop includes the confluence of the Neches and Pine Island Bayous, Cooks Lake and the Madonna Tree (it is quite the challenge to find the Madonna!) then to Scatterman Lake and back.
There is plenty of opportunity for picture taking and wildlife observation. This is always an enjoyable day!
