HOUSTON CANOE CLUB GENERAL MEETING
July 13, 2011

Vice Commodore Joe Coker called the meeting to order and introduced the officers.
Boatswain Honey Leveen announced that the club was up to 150 members and introduced guests. It was good to see old time members Jack Richardson and Joe Reil back again.
Fleet Captain Paul Woodcock gave the trip report.
Past trips included the Lake Charlotte Spring Fest trip which was very successful with 24 boats, the annual Week of Rivers in North Carolina which included whitewater runs on the Ocoee, Nantahala, Pigeon and Nolichucky rivers, a poling trip in Maine on the North Forest Canoe Trail, an exploratory trip of Lake Pass on Lake Charlotte (it’s open), and a canoe sailing trip.
Upcoming trips included a moonlight trip to Oyster Creek, a Sunday-Monday trip to the San Marcos, and the annual three day Labor Day weekend campout on the Sabine River. As always, please check the web site and contact trip coordinators for information on upcoming trips.
Joe Coker gave a safety minute on the difficulties of a following wind and the waves it generates.
Recorder John Ohrt presented the minutes of the June general meeting which were accepted as published in the newsletter.
Purser Harmon Everett gave the financial report. The checking account is at Amegy Bank and the CD at Chase.
Honey Leveen announced that she had a friend who had two sit on tops for sale; one 10ft & one 12ft, with paddles. If interested please contact Honey.
The program was a power point by Philip and Tisha Matticks on the three day Memorial Day campout on the Sabine River. They had lots of photos and good advice for the trip.
