Description: |

Houston Canoe Club member Kevin Carpenter will present an "over the top" picture program of his recent trip down the Grand Canyon with fellow members Jim Barton, Robert Killian and Billie Corbin.
According to Carpenter it was the trip of a lifetime. "After 10 years of herding my permit through the system I finally got lucky. Nov 27 to Dec 13, for 17 days, 5 HCC members + 3 others descended 226 miles of the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon. We overcame many calamities; headwinds, crow attacks, oar loss, a raft floating away, and a raft puncture. But we traveled slowly through an unfolding wonderland of canyons, narrow side canyon hikes, a fickle river of towering rapids, exotic flora, fauna, geology, heart-stopping vistas, and a carpet of stars at night. We suffered neither flips nor swimmers, and we'd all do it again tomorrow."
A consulting optical engineer by profession and a Houston native, Carpenter has traveled most Texas rivers, the San Juan, the Potomac, and the Rio Grande. "I am compelled to paddle, bicycle, hike, camp, and explore. What's next?"
Please join us for what promises to be a terrific presentation.
