Commodore Ken McDowell called the meeting to order.
Officers were introduced, and new members and visitors were introduced and welcomed.
The Safety Minute was given by Paul Woodcock on a new product called a Flip an Zip which will repair broken tent zippers in the field. Paul said they have a web page.
The program speaker was Rico Torres the owner of Buffalo Bayou Shuttle Service. He described how his company provides a shuttle service to paddlers, bikers, runners etc. from Hwy 6 to Allen’s Landing. His web site is BayouShuttle.com and the phone number is 713-538-7433. They also rent boats, have paddling lessons, and organize kayak polo sessions. He hopes to expand this type of service to other area creeks and bayous in the future.
Ken McDowell gave the Fleet Captain’s report. Past trips included the Sargents Beach trip which Honey Leveen reported raised a good bit of money for the Sargents Beach Library, the Ocoee drawdown (good hard class III whitewater), the Boundary Waters (getting down to freezing already), and the Limestone Bluffs Paddling Trail. Upcoming trips are the San Antonio River at Goliad, two trips on different sections of the Neches River, and possibly Boquillas Canyon in Big Bend in January. John Ohrt reviewed the minutes of the last general meeting which were approved as published in the newsletter.
John Rich announced that the newsletter was out.
Harmon Everett gave a financial report.
Paul Woodcock gave a membership report.
Greg Walker gave a report on the new web site. Please explore it and use its features, like the forums. If you have any questions on how to use it, please e-mail Greg or Ken McDowell (their e-mails are listed under officers).
John Bartos gave a Conservation Committee report and asked that anyone interested in helping on this committee is welcome and to contact him.
Business Meeting:
The Christmas party (remember there is NO general meeting in December - we have a Christmas party instead) is scheduled for Saturday, December 11th. The place is not definite yet as the usual place now requires insurance if alcohol is served and that would mean that every attendee would have to be an ACA member.
Of course we could do without alcohol. Keep an eye on the web site for news.
Ken McDowell asked for volunteers to serve on a nomination committee for new officers. If you are willing to help please contact Ken.
The meeting was adjourned to Jax restaurant for dinner.
