Commodore Ken McDowell called the meeting to order.
Officers were introduced, and new members and visitors were introduced and welcomed.
The Safety Minute was given by Bob Pearson on the SPOT locator beacon.
The program speaker was Ken McDowell on the Upland Island wilderness area on the Neches
River. Ken put together a slide show of the twenty-seven miles of river accompanied by the
music of the Grand Canyon Suite.
Joe Coker gave the Fleet Captain’s report. Past trips included an upstream trip on the Pecos, Old
River, the South Llano, Buffalo Bayou and the Labor Day trip on the Sabine. Upcoming trips
include the Buffalo National River in Arkansas, the Octoberpaddlefest at Huntsville State Park,
and Sargents Beach. See the trip schedule for details.
John Ohrt reviewed the minutes of the last general meeting which were approved as published in the newsletter.
Linda Gorski announced that the newsletter was out.
Harmon Everett gave a financial report.
Business Meeting:
The motion from the last meeting regarding the moving of the club website was brought to a
vote. Recorder John Ohrt was called on to read the motion as it was presented and seconded in
August. Please see the minutes of the August general meeting in the newsletter for the exact
wording. After the reading the motion was seconded again. After discussion a vote was held. All
votes were in favor (there were in excess of thrty), there were no negative votes, the motion
passed. The club officers are to move forward to execute the change.
