Calvin (Hot Spring Village Paddlers and ACC) is a good friend who happened to be there at the same time and joined us.

Chicago Bob (Arkansas Canoe Club) was also there on his regular trash pickup.  He launched ahead of us and we didn’t see him again.

This is the “alley” that leads to the river from the launch.  There was just enough water to get to the river without getting out of your boat if you were willing to thrash hard enough.  Half of us lined it, getting our feet wet early.

The flow was generally pretty good, with lots of shallow rocks to keep us engaged.

These were some not-so-shallow rocks that took your attention from the shallow rocks in the “open” gap

This is a ledge that spans the entire river – no graceful ways through this at this water level

I am consolidating our wildlife count here.  We saw a woodpecker, kingfishers, two green herons, a little blue heron, a GBH, two eagles and a few plovers or sandpipers (I still can’t tell the difference), turtles (red-ears and cooters), crows and vultures.  We also heard fish crows.

We stopped for lunch on a convenient gravel bar.

About a mile before the end of this paddle is a sheltered little run – very welcome shade on a summer day
