We got on the water at 12:05 PM.  It was calm and sunny.  We paddled north into the large finger of the lake and into several side coves on the east side.  There was still snow on the north-facing shores from our recent winter storm.

The water was low, and most of the side coves had lots of cut-off trees that stood about two to four feet above the surface of the water.  We paddled through all of them to the ends of the coves.

In the middle of one of the fields of snags we saw an otter sunning himself.  Very cute.

This one didn’t even huff at us

We saw crows, woodpeckers, egrets, great blue herons, a loon, an otter, a beaver, turkey vultures, a turtle, frogs, fingerlings and squirrels.  It was a great time to be on the water after being cooped up during the big winter freeze.
