This was the segment we planned to do on the way home from our School of River Paddling. Instead, Duane, Mary and I rolled out to the Benton area from our respective homes.
This was an Arkansas Canoe Club evening paddle with dinner following. We met at the Peelerbend put-in and Duane and I were on the water at 6:00 PM.
We started downriver at about 6:20 when everyone got themselves organized.
It was a very tame float until about three quarters of the way through when we came upon some shelves and splits. We spent some time at this spot surfing and ferrying on the features. This is where I finally got a really lame photo of the three of us in the HCC:

Then we continued downstream. When we were just about to the end, the sweep boat caught up with us and encouraged us to attach ourselves to him and his trolling motor.

The outfitter shuttled us back to our vehicles, and we drove back to the take-out to load up our gear and have a dinner of spicy chicken and rice and orange chicken. It was very good. I fell in with a small group of guys who were all familiar with our favorite haunts, and picked up some tips about Jack’s Fork, the Current River, and the Eleven Point. I also confirmed my suspicions about the Spring River.
