Recorder: Alice Nissen

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m.  Officers in attendance were Greg Fan, Vice Commodore; Bob Naeger, Purser, Tyrone White, Boatswain; Christy Long (via Zoom), Fleet Captain; Harmon Everett, Newsletter Editor; and Alice Nissen, Recorder. Tom Douglas, Conservation Chairman, was in attendance. Fifteen attendees in person and seven attendees via Zoom for a total attendance of 22. Last month’s meeting minutes were approved.

Tom gave the conservation report and talked about the can ban in effect at San Marcos, the Wallisville Lake Project, Addicks and Barker Reservoir master plan, Buffalo Bayou flooding study, Galveston Beach Bacteria study and the 15-year-old stormwater permit. For detailed information on these topics, refer to the conservation forum on our website.

The nominating committee is composed of Natalie Wiest, Bruce Bodson, and Alice Nissen. Positions available on the board are vice commodore and recorder.

Christy gave the fleet captain report and mentioned all the trips that were taken in August and the upcoming September trips.

Gary Seloff, nature photographer, was introduced as our presenter tonight. Having worked at NASA for many years, he would take his kayak out on Armand Bayou before work, before sunrise, and observe and photograph nature. He brought 474 slides, all taken at Armand Bayou, that were some of the most amazing, astounding, and beautiful pictures of wildlife one has ever seen. If you were unable to attend tonight’s meeting to see these remarkable photographs, they can also be seen online at Gary Seloff-Flickr. He accompanied these pictures with stories of his adventures as well. One such story: Having been on the bayou every day for over 10 years, he was well known to the wildlife, even the alligators. He made friends with a very-protective mamma alligator who trusted him so much she left her 15 babies with him to babysit while she swam away for a while. Many thanks to Gary for a wonderful presentation.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00
