This was a trip originally scheduled for January, which we cancelled due to extreme cold and unpleasant weather. We picked a perfect day in February.

There was plenty of water everywhere due to recent rains, but current was no problem.  We went from White Memorial Park down Turtle Bayou to Lake Anahuac, checked out the end of the boardwalk of the Anahuac NWR headquarters, then paddled up a little cut near the mouth of Turtle bayou.  We got out and explored a little of the Turtle Bayou Nature Preserve.  Saw flocks of Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, White and White-faced Ibis all numbering in the dozens.  Overall on the day we counted 22 speci
es of different birds.

After we relaunched, we headed back upstream to the starting point but continued to on up Whites Creek for a mile or so and turned around to the takeout.  Very pleasant day and pleasant company.
