Be Waiver Smart

The club is starting our second full year of insuring our events through PaddleSports Risk Management LLC(PRM). Here’s a reminder on what is covered and how members can help the program run smoothly.

Our coverage is for “regular” club events; meetings, social events and paddle trips for our members and invited guests. It does not cover races or instruction events. If we stage a race or instruction event we can buy event-specific coverage.

Guests can attend our events without paying any fees. However, this is limited to three events. If people want to join our events regularly, they need to join the club.

Trip leaders do not need to provide PRM with any information about individual trips. The only exception would be if we needed to file a claim related to an event.

PRM makes provides an on-line waiver system. Please be aware of the following about the on-line waivers:

  • First, I want to thank members for the great response to the new waiver system. We’ve had great compliance.
  • You only need to sign one waive per year. You will be prompted to do it when you pay your dues on-line. If have never completed a waiver, click this link HCC waiver now and then renew it whenever you next pay your dues. When you fill out the waiver, please fill in all the information including emergency contacts and your birthday.
  • PRM lets the club access the electronic waiver database. The Fleet Captain periodically downloads the information to the website so trip leaders can easily check to see if trip participants have a waiver on file ahead of the trip. They can also use the information to easily prepare trip rosters and emergency contact lists.
  • The electronic waiver is easy to complete either on a PC or a smartphone. We ask trip leaders to encourage anyone who needs a new waiver to do it on-line. We can bring and sign paper forms, but it adds extra work for everyone.
