Bacteria Implementation Group – Dec 5

The project area for the BacteriaImplementation Group(the “BIG”) is approximately 3,260 square miles and has a population of nearly five million people. It encompasses part of 10 counties, much of the City of Houston, and all or part of another 63 cities.

 

Bacteria Implementation Group - BIG -Project AreaMore than 120 specific plans to improve water quality in our region’s waterbodies, which are overseen by the BIG, are now in their implementation phase. One issue discussed during the group’s fall meeting was the need to update EPA’s Recreational Water Quality Criteriato address human health risks by adopting more modern molecular technology. A workshop on this topic will be planned.

Texas Water Development Board Meeting in Houston – Dec 7

Texas Water Development BoardMembers of the Texas Water DevelopmentBoardmet in Houston. Other participants included representatives from the Texas Legislature, City of Houston, Harris County

Flood Control District, and Harris-Galveston Subsidence District. The Board received comments from the public on matters within the jurisdiction of the TWDB and discussed its outreach efforts. Twelve different actions involving the expenditureof more than $124,000,000 were approved.

Flood Control Project on Horsepen Bayou is Canceled

Following expressions of public concern and an analysis of updated data for the ExplorationGreen Detention Facility, the Harris County Flood Control District is canceling its plan to modify Horsepen Bayou, a tributary of Armand Bayou, between Clear Lake City Blvd. and Bay Area Blvd.
