August 2023
by Kent Walters

AUTHOR’S NOTE: This column is intended to be entertaining at the expense of truth and accuracy, but I sneak in some good information as well. It is up to the reader to distinguish between entertainment and reality.

Q: What is all this?

A: This is the delux Bruce Bodson Brazos de Dios put-in / take-out kit.

Q:  Where is the most spectacular place you have seen a kayak?

A: Sea kayaking in the Lofoten archipelago (Norway) looks pretty spectacular . . .

. . . but Boquillas and Santa Elena Canyons do it for me.

Q: What happens when you lose your concentration while kayaking?

A: Please see Alice negotiating the Rock Slide training rapid below:

Q: In your photos of the Buffalo River put-in, the group was eating pizza.  How did you slice the pizza in this remote location?

A: We used the Level Six pizza slicer

WORD OF THE MONTH:

 image018  image019

Used in a sentence:

Alice says she is so glad she followed the cacoethes to join the trip through Colorado and Santa Elena Canyons, even though it terrified her.

Q: If volcanos, asteroids, and an inconveniently timed ice age had not wiped out the dinosaurs, how would your paddling trips be different?

image023

A: I would have to add a few more items to the list of hazards and make sure the waiver covered death by all great blue heron relatives, including this most impressive spinosaurus.

GOOD ONE:

A good life is when you

  • smile often,
  • dream big,
  • laugh a lot, and
  • realize how blessed you are for what you have.

MUG O’ THE MONTH:

PARTING THOUGHT:

Positive people are not positive because they’ve skated through life.  They’re positive because they’ve been through hell and decided they don’t want to live there anymore.--- Mona Lisa Nyman
