The Houston Canoe Club hosted a picnic and paddle on Saturday, July 30, at Brooks Lake in Sugar Land, starting at 5:30 pm, at the Courtyard by Marriott Houston Sugar Land/Lake Point hotel.

Brooks Lake is in the north quadrant of the intersection of Highway 6 and Highway 59. The lake wraps around a large office complex, home to Fluor oil and gas construction company, and several hotels, among other tenants. See the maps, below.

Our Marriott Hotel Host set up the serving table on the back courtyard. We were in the shade for the entire get together.

Food was pot-luck style, with the club providing entrees (flat breads, chicken wings, and chicken quesadillas) and iced water. Delicious side dishes and desserts. Dinner was served at 6:30.

Most attendees brought a boat and paddled on Brooks Lake for a while. The launch area was easy, and it was an out and back paddle. It was a good opportunity to try each other's boats.
