The number one water quality issue is Contact Recreation due to an excessive level of fecal waste/indicator bacteria.

Other impairments are Excess Nutrients (Nitrogen/Phosphorus), Sediment, Flooding, Trash/Dumping, and Habitat Loss.

Nominations (including self-nominations) are open for the Partnership’s Steering Committee. 

Next meeting will be in April. This is a goo
d time to get involved.

Buffalo Bayou Community Plan Roundtable – March 8

The second meeting of the Environmental Roundtable focused on the topic of flood tunnels.

Litigation over damages from Hurricane Harvey will affect financing of the project.

Next meeting of the Environmental Roundtable will address issues farther upstream in the Addicks Watershed and the Upper Cypress Creek Watershed.

When the work of the Environmental Roundtable is complete, a series of meetings for the broader community is planned.

Harris County Flood Control District Community Engagement Meeting

A Regional Drainage Study has been conducted. Stormwater detention is the recommended path forward → prioritize 49 potential basins → 22 recommended.


Prioritize projects into Tier 1 and Tier 2, based largely on the number of structures protected.

Top-rated Stormwater Detention Basins (SDBs) are: Cypresswood @ Jones SDB; Cypress Hill, Cypress Spring, Ella and Westador SDBs; T.C. Jester SDB; Mercer SDB; Cypress Park SDB Extension.

Viva Texas Rivers! – Exhibit Open Through May 31

New from Texas A&M Press

Over 90 contributions from Texas writers – songs, poems, recollections of river trips, essays, fold-out maps, and more.

The Exhibit

Now open on the campus of Texas State University in San Marcos.
Among many other objects, it features the canoe paddle that was used by John Graves during his epic three-week paddle down the Brazos River, as chronicled in his book Goodbye to a River.
