Howdy folks, this is your Commodore, Natalie Wiest, reporting in and looking to our next get-togethers.
This COVID thing is really eating our lunch in terms of meeting planning but here is our plan for the March 9 meeting which I hope is on your calendar. This time we will have a “hybrid” meeting. We WILL be meeting in person at the Bayland Center; but we will ALSO “broadcast” via Zoom for those who are uncomfortable with attending in person or who otherwise don’t want to drive in for the meeting. Like our previous Zoom-only meetings, this will require advance registration if you want to attend via Zoom, or just show up in person.
The weekend before the meeting features two very worthwhile events: the Buffalo Bayou Partnership Regatta AND the San Marcos River cleanup.
It’s the 50th anniversary of the Buffalo Bayou Regatta and always a fun paddling event and race. More information on the race itself is at: https://buffalobayou.org/event/50th-annual-regatta-presented-by-gillman-subaru/. If you aren’t interested in racing but you’d like to help our Club publicize our existence, Boatswain, Tim Brooking is coordinating our display area and we’d love to have you join us. No expertise needed, but a few of us sit at the table and hand out brochures and information about the club and of course visit with members and friends who are race participants. We’ll be at Allen’s Landing Park. If the finish line entertainment is like days of yore, there’s a fun Zydeco band and food trucks. Come on out and join us.
If kibbitzing at the Regatta isn’t your style and you’d like a more hands-on approach to river running, that same date (March 5) is the cleanup on the San Marcos River. Lots of camaraderie there combined with a slow float down the river while picking up trash. Sign up for that on the Event Calendar and you’ll get more information.
The best paddling weather is at our doorstep, let’s get out there on the water or at our meeting, regatta or cleanup. See you soon.
