Cliff

Cliff was born in a tiny village of Eastern Venezuela halfway between spectacular Caribbean beaches and the great Orinoco River. His was an idyllic outdoor childhood of fishing, camping, hunting, and exploration. At 16 he was the youngest non-Indigenous American to trek up the Churún river to the bottom of Angel Falls. He obtained his degree in electrical engineering at Cornell. His job at Brown & Root brought him to Houston, where he lived most of his adult life. One of his first engineering assignments was on the design team for the hydroelectric plant of the Guri dam on the Caroní River in Southeastern Venezuela. Others took him to the North Slope of Alaska where he honed photographic skills later applied to underwater photography.  He was a member of the Houston Underwater Club where he met his best friend and wife Marilyn of 44 years. They enjoyed outdoor activities such as camping, scuba diving, skiing and canoe/kayaking. Not only did they paddle rivers in Texas, but rivers across the US, from the East Coast for the Week of Rivers, to the Northwest in Idaho and Wyoming and rafting through the Grand Canyon. Their love of travel also took them to many destinations in the Caribbean, cross country road trips, a European river cruise and trip to China. His other hobbies included home improvement projects including building his man cave garage and home brewing. You could always be treated to a selection of beers in his presence.

Cliff was preceded in death by wife Marilyn and is survived by children Bob Dawkins-Carol, Don Dawkins-Helen and Tanya Dawkins-Byron Geannopoulos, his sister Elise Gomez-Sanchez-Celso, brother Bruce Peery-Mary. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be held on Jan. 15, 2022, 2-6 pm at Chancellors Family Center, 6535 Dumphries, Dr. Houston, TX 77096.
