Arizona Man Narrowly Escapes Hippo Attack while Paddling in Gorongosa National Park During his recent visit to Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique, Theodore Swanson of Winslow, Arizona decided to take a late afternoon paddle with his wife following the day’s safari activities. Ted was really in for a big surprise. “I knew it was going to be real trouble when the front of my boat rose up in the air like that. Those things are really big, and they have huge teeth!” After narrowly avoiding being crushed by a territorial male hippopotamus, Ted managed to back-paddle fast enough to escape. Check out the video of his encounter, taken by his wife, Valerie, HERE.
