HCC Holiday Party
Dec. 20th, 2020
The Houston Canoe Club will host a Holiday Party for its members on Sunday, December 20th, from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. The party venue is Cedar Hill Park, on the shore of beautiful Lake Charlotte, in Wallisville. The club has reserved the pavilion for the entire day, and an earlier short lake paddle is scheduled prior to the party. So, the pavilion can be the hang-out spot for both the paddle and the picnic. Feel free to decorate your canoe or kayak, and wear your Christmas outfits. The schedule: 10:00 am: short paddle 12:00 noon: gather at pavilion 1:00 pm: lunch The pavilion has ample parking, adjacent bathrooms, picnic tables, one BBQ grill, lights, electrical outlets, water spigot and a trash can. Attendees may want to bring their own lawn chairs and camp tables. Because of the zombie plague, the usual buffet style food service is forbidden. We are having everyone bring their own lunches from home, including their own drinks and ice. Individually wrapped desserts made with gloves on will be provided, along with disposable plates and utensils. Alcohol will not be allowed, as that requires the hiring of an expensive Deputy. Masks and social distancing are required. It will be fun despite the limitations! Be sure to check up on the status of the party in case it gets cancelled due to bad weather or virus surge. Here are two maps that you can print to help you get to the location: Map, Macro Map, Close-Up (Click to enlarge and print) Driving directions, easy-peasy!: From Houston, drive east on Interstate-10. Take Exit 810 for Anahuac. Turn left/north onto 563, and drive 2.8 miles. Turn left/west onto Lake Charlotte Road. Drive 1.1 miles to Cedar Hill Park, which is on the left. Click the image below for an interactive map of the park party location: Further instructions... If you need more information about the Holiday party, please contact Alice Nissen. Assistance is needed for set-up, take-down and clean-up, and if you can volunteer to help, contact Alice at alicenissen@sbcglobal.net. Set-up helpers should arrive about 12:00 noon to decorate the pavilion and lay out the set-up. Take-down and clean-up helpers should plan on staying a little later after 5:00 pm to make sure we leave the area in the same condition in which we found it, or better. For questions about the venue and procedures, contact Alice Nissen. Santa hopes to see you there! Have you been a good little paddler this year?
