Spring Creek Watershed Partnership
July 2020
In addition to being a favorite place for paddlers, Spring Creek provides critical habitat for aquatic life, and it is an important drinking water source for Lake Houston. Forming much of the northern boundary of Harris County, Spring Creek suffers from low levels of dissolved oxygen and elevated levels of water-borne bacteria. Its watershed includes several communities, with The Woodlands being the largest.
To identify the problems more fully, and to bring in local expertise to help address them, an effort is now getting underway to establish a Spring Creek Watershed Partnership. The Partnership’s eventual goal will be to create a Watershed Protection Plan, which can help to find resources for the task.
The first (virtual) meeting of the Spring Creek Watershed Partnership will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 29, 2020. All interested persons are cordially invited.
Lots of good background information about Spring Creek is available at the Partnership’s website, where you can register to attend the meeting. If you have questions, please contact Rachel Windham at rachel.windham@h-gac.com.
