A Message from the Commodore
May 2020
by Natalie Wiest
Hello all, I hope you are weathering the COVID-19 storm well and happily - or at least tolerating it.
I want to assure you the Board of the Houston Canoe Club has been active in our virtual activities and holding fairly regular meetings, with the unfortunate outcome that we have been cancelling general meetings and events. We met again on Wednesday evening May 28th via Zoom and the outcome again is the cancellation of the general meeting that would otherwise be scheduled June 10th. With Harris County Judge Linda Hidalgo's extension of the Stay at Home program until June 10th, the Bayland Community Center, our usual meeting place, is closed until that day. Even if it opened, then it's unlikely we could meet in full force. However, since we are all missing our regular Club meetings, we have a plan for July: we will meet via Zoom. Vice Commodore Christy Long will be sending more information on that meeting, tentatively scheduled for July 8th. If we get an "all clear" we may meet in person but the plan is to meet virtually. Stay tuned.
Many of us have been doing small, private, socially distanced trips in the interim. You have seen the notice from Boatswain Bruce Bodson and know if you are pining for a trip, you should contact him to make sure that desire is known.
Hang in there everyone, we're all in this together.
Sincerely,
Natalie Wiest
Commodore, Houston Canoe Club
