Commodore Bob Naeger opened the meeting at 7 pm, and introduced the club officers. All officers were present except for Kent Walters, who was off paddling the Rio Grande River, and Frank Ohrt who was driving a trailer full of camellias from Louisiana.

A pre-meeting dinner was held at the Thai Cottage restaurant on Bissonnet, and a post-meeting dinner was announced at Jax's Grill on Rice.
The club Christmas party is scheduled for December 14th at the South Texas College of Law in downtown Houston. A party organizer is needed, along with volunteers to help set-up and take-down. Contact Bob Naeger to offer your assistance.

Purser Kent Walters was out of town on a paddle trip, as noted, so Commodore Bob Naeger presented the financial report. The bank accounts are healthy. For details, contact Kent.
Bob Naeger gave a Safety Minute, and the topic was the upcoming cooler weather. Don't forget your cold weather gear when paddling in cooler temperatures. Get that gear ready now, and keep a spare change of clothes in a dry bag.

Linda Shead made an announcement about an upcoming presentation by the Bayou Preservation Association, called "The Dirt", about the importance of healthy soils in flood control and water quality.
Bosun Paul Woodcock gave the membership report. We've had no new members this month, and total membership is down slightly.

There is still time to throw your hat into the ring, and a call for nominations from the floor will be held at the November meeting. Following that, the election will be held.
Vice Commodore Dan Roy introduced the guest speaker for the evening, Patti Carothers.
Patti spoke about First Aid and medical issues while in the outdoors. By profession, Patti is trained as a registered nurse, and is a Red Cross CPR, First Aid and Wilderness First Aid instructor. She is also an accomplished paddle instructor and trainer for over 25 years. She gave many good tips on taking care of yourself and others in the wilderness.
