The HCC Library
September 2019
The Houston Canoe Club has long maintained a library of books and videos that can be borrowed by the membership, for education and entertainment. Paul Woodcock is the official librarian, who dutifully hauls the inventory back and forth to meetings each month.
The Board of Directors has conducted a review of this Club function, and found that there is virtually zero activity for check-outs of these items. Many of the materials are out of date. For example, many of the videos are in the old VCR-tape format which no one uses any more. The library items are just gathering dust and taking up space in the garage.
And with the modern internet, the information contained in the books and videos can be found online in the convenience of one's home on a computer, or a personal copy readily obtained with an online order.
So, the Board has decided that the HCC library will be eliminated. Paul will bring the library materials to the September general membership meeting on Sept. 11th where they will be free for the taking, first-come first-serve. Anything left over at the end of the meeting will be donated to the Bayland Community Center library.
