Sept. 7, 2018, by Ann Derby: Beloved long time HCC member Martha Lynn Miller-Hulsebosch-Williams passed away this week. In her 80's, she once canoed many rivers including the Lower Canyons of the Rio Grande with husband Leonard Hulsebosch. Obituary: Martha Lynn Hulsebosch 1928-2018 Martha Lynn Miller Hulsebosch Williams passed peacefully from this earth on September 6, 2018 to join her husband Leonard and her son Lenny where there is no pain or fear, and joy abounds. She was born in San Antonio, Texas, on February 29, 1928 the youngest child of Sara Elizabeth and Royal Varde Miller. Affectionately called the Velvet Hammer by her husband, Baby or Aunt Baby by family members, she was also called "legs Miller" by her friends at Alamo Heights High School, where she was a drum majorette. A Bachelor of Arts graduate from Trinity Women's College, she met the love of her life, Leonard, a women's clothes buyer, while dressing the windows of Frost Department Store in San Antonio. The family moved to Galveston, then Houston, to work at the new shopping mall, Palms Center. Martha and Leonard soon opened Mr. Leonard's, which had 3 locations in Houston. They celebrated 41 years together, sharing the happiness and heartaches of life. After Leonard died, she married her high school sweetheart, Barry Williams. She was a leader in the community; she worked while raising children, played bridge, painted, played piano, instituted annual family camp-outs, and was a founding member with Leonard, of the Houston Canoe Club. She was an active member of the Red Hat Chapter: The Blazing Paddles and was extremely involved with her religious community at St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Church. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. One of her biggest ambitions in life was to have six children and be a "good" wife and mother. At this, she was wildly successful. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and son, her brother Joe and sisters Kaki and Buddie; and is survived by her children and their spouses: Claire and Donald Daum, Howard and Carol Hulsebosch, David and Shawna Hulsebosch, Robert Hulsebosch and Mary and Chris Peck; as well as her grandchildren: Ally and Jonathan Daum, Chris and Danielle Hulsebosch, Daniel and Jessica Hulsebosch, Victor and Jessica Gill and Katherine Hulsebosch, Alec and Charles Peck and great grand children Ava and Lauren Hulsebosch. The family wishes to thank the personnel at Autumn Leaves of Cy-Fair for taking care of their beautiful mother.
