Daniel Roy |
According to Daniel Roy, building an 18-foot kayak is easier than you think! “All my nerdish life, I cannot remember ever making something truly useful and durable that I could touch. A mid-life crisis convinced me that I had to change that.” He was living in Columbia, MD, and chanced upon a company selling kayak kits: Chesapeake Light Craft. “On a lark,” he ordered a kit for an 18-foot sea kayak. Daniel is sure that if he can build one all by himself, then you can, too-and in less time. His kayak will be at the meeting for you to see and touch.
Daniel Roy was president of Software Technology, Process and People (STPP), a training and consulting company specializing in the institutionalization of disciplined software engineering practices in 14 countries on four continents. He worked for approximately 40 years in the development of biomedical and space systems, including over 12 years with major contractors at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and the DoD Software Engineering Institute of Carnegie Mellon University. He was mainly educated in France (MSCS, MSEE, DEA). He is now happily retired in League City, Texas, studying on the net, teaching astronomy, paddling, and doing whatever is on his wife Rebeca’s “honey-do lists.”
