- Commodore Honey Leveen called the meeting to order, and introduced the club officers. Officers present were Ms. Leveen, Vice-commodore Alice Nissen, Boatswain Paul Woodcock, Recorder Frank Ohrt, Webmaster Harmon Everett, Newsletter Editor John Rich, Fleet Captain Natalie Wiest, Purser Kent Walters, and Sergeant-at-arms Ann Derby. She noted the pre-meeting dinner at Thai Cottage.

- Mr. Woodcock gave the Safety Minute on emergency boat repair. He had some good, and hard-won, advice.
- Ms. Wiest gave the Fleet Captain’s report. There were relatively few recent club trips, due to rain and cold temperatures. The trips that occurred, and their trip leaders, were:

- Upcoming trips announced included:

- “100-Miler” paddlers were Kent Walters, David Portz, Duane Hecklesberg and Christy Long. Joe Coker was close enough that the Fleet Captain is considering giving him 1.8 miles, on the grounds that he must have back-tracked that much over a year of paddling.

- Tom Douglas noted the Wild and Scenic Film Festival at the River Oaks Theater, Jan. 24-25.
- Mr. Woodcock gave the Boatswain’s report. New members announced were:

There was one visitor present, Tim Cunningham.
- Mr. Walters gave the Purser’s report. There were some unusual expenses in November and December (holiday party, etc.), but we ended the year $100.00 under budget. Hooray!

- Ms. Nissen introduced Linda Day, who spoke on the status of the San Marcos River and the fact that the local sheriff is not enforcing the agreement TRPA made with the tubing companies.
- Ms. Leveen adjourned the meeting.

- Commodore Honey Leveen called the meeting to order. Present were Ms. Leveen, Vice-commodore Alice Nissen, Fleet Captain Natalie Wiest, Boatswain Paul Woodcock, Newsletter Editor John Rich, and Recorder Frank Ohrt. Purser Kent Walters was present by telephone.
- Mr. Walters gave the purser’s report. We’re good for the year, despite having some extra, but predictable, expenses in November and December. He asked Mr. Ohrt to find out if St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church wanted to keep our deposit from the 2017 holiday party, and apply it to our 2018 party, Dec. 15th.
Mr. Walters raised the question of the financial effects of having HCC pay the $5.00 ACA insurance fees for non-ACA participants in club activities. After much discussion, he offered to see what it would have cost HCC in 2017 if that policy had been in effect. Ms. Leveen asked about the wording of our liability statement on the HCC website. The consensus was that it was fine, and should remain as written.
Mr. Walters then asked about club donations to various conservation groups. No one could remember exactly who we gave to in 2017, so we resolved to find out. There was an extra large donation to TRPA in 2017, reflecting their legal efforts on behalf of the San Marcos River.
He mentioned that Ms. Wiest had a budget of $400.00 for 100 - Miler awards, although she was not obliged to spend it all.
- Ms. Wiest gave the Fleet Captain’s report. There were six club trips since our last meeting in October. The club had 30 trips in 2017, with a total of 2,562 miles paddled by members.
- Mr. Woodcock announced two new members, Larry Croft and Ken McCormick.
- Ms. Nissen discussed speakers for upcoming months. In February, Paul Comstock will speak on paddling Lake Champlain, and the lake’s history. Beth Johnson has postponed her planned talk in March. Other possibilities included Robert Killian, speaking on his trip down the Green River in Utah.
It was announced that Ann Derby, the club Sergeant-at-arms, had the club’s new laptop computer and DVD player.
- Several options were discussed for upcoming Safety Minutes. Mr. Woodcock offered to talk about his emergency boat repair kit at the January membership meeting.
Ms Leveen adjourned the meeting.
