Five of us showed up on Christmas Day to paddle along Buffalo Bayou; Me, Paul, Gerry, Terry and Frank. The river was running a bit low, at 110 CFS, and the temperature was a bit high at about 75 degrees.
We dropped the boats off at the Woodway put-in and Terry stayed with them while the rest of us ran shuttle down to the Spaghetti Warehouse. As we were leaving on the shuttle, another group also showed up to paddle the Bayou! Great minds think alike, I guess.
We started off on an excellent Christmas morning paddle.
Paul was looking good! It is almost impossible to see, but behind Paul, underneath the plastic bag hanging off the branch, is a small heron, standing very still, and hoping we don’t notice him.
Standing very still, and hoping we don’t notice him. Here is a closer picture, and still he is very hard to see.
We stopped for lunch at the Lost Lake Visitor Center. It has a decent beach, bathrooms, and benches. It made for a great lunch stop!
At the Wortham Center, Frank attracted the attention of a passerby, and directed him to the SECRET BUTTON that controls the fountain in the middle of the river. This entertained both us, and several of the other pedestrians who were walking around downtown on Christmas day.
After a pretty uneventful, and relaxing morning, we finished at the Spaghetti Warehouse at about 1:30, packed up and went home to continue the Christmas Celebration!
Happy Holidays! And Happy New Year everybody! See you On The Water!
