Lake Charlotte to Mac Bayou and on out to the Trinity River
Oct. 25, 2016
by Natalie Wiest
I have lost a lot of paddle time over the summer and early fall with a shoulder surgery but finally have the OK to paddle, and here are photos from a trip Ann Andrisek and I made from Cedar Hill Park across Lake Charlotte, down Mac Bayou, and on out to the Trinity River, then back into Mac Lake. This was my first test paddle and all went well, I am so happy to get back on the water again!
Here’s Ann setting out across the bayou:
As you can see, it was a gorgeous day to be out on the water, and we saw lots of wading birds with frequent commentary from belted kingfishers and accompaniment by white ibises and great blue herons.
We found a great clump of pickerel weed blooming at the upper edges of Mac Lake.
And this big boy sunning along the bayou
The Trinity was serene as we stopped at a sandbar there on the mouth of the Sulphur Cut to have our lunch.
Wish you could have been out there with us.
