Terry Herdlicka, Harmon Everett, Joe Coker, and Christy Long camped and paddled. David Portz paddled and Steve Long camped.
We paid a five-dollar launch fee per car to put in at the Spencer’s cabin at Staples. We, the campers, met David Portz at Staples at 9:30, ran shuttle, and started paddling around 10 am. The water was clear and running fast. This nine-mile portion of the river has no dams or lower water bridges but many twist and turns with strainers thrown it for good measure.
The wildlife was out in force. At one point, Terry and I were in the lead and startled three deer standing or crossing the river. We saw an abundance of Red-tail Hawks and Red-shoulders Hawks.
